Pittsburgh-based band Moose Lodge Revival focuses on preserving the heart of real American bluegrass.
Bluegrass developed among Appalachian communities in the first half of the Twentieth Century. The genre mixes elements of African American music (blues and jazz) with European music (primarily Irish ballads). It is played almost exclusively on acoustic instruments such as banjo and guitar.
The band takes its name from a venue operated by a branch of the fraternal organization Loyal Order of Moose. It hosted many bluegrass acts in the 1980’s and 1990’s including award winning musician Tim O’Brien. Moose Lodge Revival delivers timeless songs with authenticity, care, and deep respect for the tradition.
Admission is free. Presented as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a celebration of the arts in Pittsburgh since 1960. The festival is a production of the nonprofit Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
