Established in 1888, the National Geographic Society is a non-profit organization that promotes environmental and historical conservation as well as the study of world culture and history. Nine months after its founding, the society began publishing National Geographic Magazine which features articles about science, geography, history and world culture. It is especially notable its extensive use of dramatic photographs.
