Local fiber artist and backyard bird enthusiast Erin Carlson will help students learn to needle felt (or sharpen their skills) by creating a cloth replica of the lovely singing bird called the scarlet tanager.

Felt is a fabric produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibers together. It is usually made from wool or acrylic. Felt is one of the oldest known textiles, having originated in central Asia around 700BCE.

Erin will guide you through the needle felting process as you look closely to observe the shape and markings of the species and gain a deeper appreciation of our avian neighbors.
