See the rainbow flags fly during two terrific days of entertainment, community and fun featuring artists such as Cain Culto (pictured).
Pride Month is an annual celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The word and concept of “pride” is in direct opposition to that of “shame” (or social stigma), which sexual minorities have had to endure for centuries. June is chosen as Pride Month in recognition of the Stonewall Riots, which happen in New York City on June 28, 1969. This event marked the start to what is now the LGBT Rights Movement.
The child of Colombian and Nicaraguan immigrants, singer and violinist Andrew Padilla (better known as Cain Culto) has a bold, uncompromising style that pulls at the threads of faith, politics, race and capitalism in the form of wild -eyed, original pop music.
Andrew’s stage name is derived from that of Biblical figure Cain (who murdered his brother out of jealousy) and the Spanish word that translates to English as “worship”. He was once a pastor at a conservative Christian church before coming out as gay.
Programming and performances are held each day (Saturday and Sunday) from Noon to 8:00pm.
