The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs a special program of music celebrate the history and culture of Iran.

What is now called the Islamic Republic of Iran is the site of one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It’s culture dates back 7,000 years. Until 1953, much of the world knew the country as Persia. Tonight’s concert showcases works by Iranian composer/musician Reza Vali.

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Poets and writers curated by City of Asylum will read throughout the program.
