Join Queens Gambit Chess Institute of Pittsburgh for chess activities of all levels.

Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a checkered board with 64 squares arranged in a grid. The game is believed to have originated in 7th Century India and became popular in Europe. Each player begins with 16 pieces (representing a king, queen, bishops, rooks, knights and pawns). The objective is to checkmate the opponent’s king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture.

Founded in 2014, Queens Gambit Chess Institute of Pittsburgh is an organization that sees chess as a tool to create an equitable community where thoughtful, intentional, and inclusive leaders solve society’s biggest challenges.

Admission is free. Presented as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a 10-day celebration of visual and performing arts produced by the nonprofit Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and primarily sponsored by local financial firm Dollar Bank.
