Learn how Wigle starts with organic, local grain to produce its award-winning rye, bourbon and other spirits.
Rye (also called rye whiskey) is an alcoholic beverage distilled from at least 51 percent rye grain, which is closely related to wheat and barley. In the 19th Century, Pittsburgh was the center of the nation’s rye production.
Bourbon is a distinctly American whiskey — an alcohol drink made primarily from corn and distilled in an aged barrel — that first appeared in Kentucky during the late 18th century. While the origin is uncertain, many historians cite Baptist minister Elijah Craig (1738-1808) as the inventor, with the name referencing France’s royal Bourbon dynasty.
Five tours are scheduled for today, with the first beginning at Noon.
