Enjoy a staged reading of the upcoming musical, “Shantytown: The Ballad of Fr. James Cox.”
“Shantytown” explores the forgotten tale of James Renshaw Cox (1886-1951). This Roman Catholic priest from Pittsburgh who organized an unprecedented protest march on Washington, DC, in 1932. During the Great Depression, his parish printed the first food stamps, feeding almost 3 million people.
Be awed by his courage, his ideas, his love for his people, his rise to near sainthood, and his survival of a federal trial for a lottery scam.
