Originally formed in 1964 (and revived in 1983), the Jamaican band Skatalites helped to bring ska music to the broad American audience.
Ska is a genre that emerged in 1950’s Jamaica that incorporates elements of Caribbean music into a lend of jazz an rhythm & blues. The term was coined by musicians to refer to the “skat! skat! skat!” scratching guitar strum.
The current incarnation of Skatalites continues on an extraordinary journey to leave an indelible mark on the global music landscape.
