In “Joy Machine,” the troupe Squonk pushes participation further than ever before.
Squonk is a local ensemble of artists who create post-industrial performances with original music, design and staging that are outside the rules of mass culture, fashion or academia.
For the first time, the audience is invited fully onstage — into Squonk’s world of imagination. The central idea is simple and radical: joy is not something to be consumed, but something we build together.
Admission is free. Presented as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a celebration of the arts in Pittsburgh since 1960. The festival is a production of the nonprofit Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
