Innovators of hip-hop and rap since the late 1970’s, the Sugarhill Gang (pictured) continues to perform their rhythmic, street-style of disco.
The group was named after a neighborhood of the Brooklyn section of Harlem called Sugar Hill. Their 1979 song “Rapper’s Delight” was the first rap single to become a hit on the famous Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Also performing are The Furious 5, who were the first rap group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
This free, “all-ages” concert is being staged at the corner of Stanwix Street and Fort Duquesne Boulevard. Presented as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a project of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust sponsored by financial firm Dollar Bank.
