A challenging youth inspires the music of singer/songwriter Sunny War (born Sydney Lyndella Ward) who crafts a set of songs that draw on a range of ideas and styles.
As a teenager, Sydney began drinking heavily, which led to her dropping out of school. She played punk shows, stole and chugged bottles of vodka, and quickly became addicted to heroin and meth. Music remained a lifeline helping her achieve sobriety.
Sunny enlivens traditional folk and blues by freshening her musical attack and writing lyrics that reflect 21st century concerns.
