Teiku is a unique jazz band whose distinctive sound is inspired by the Ashkenazi-Ukrainian ancestry of pianist Josh Harlow and drummer Jonathan Barahal Taylor.

The Ashkenazi are a community of European Jews who often immigrated from one part of the continent to another to escape persecution. Many settled in what is the modern country of Ukraine when it was ruled by Polan and later Russia.

With simple vocal melodies as source material, Teiku spins together multi-layered compositions and improvisations that feel right at home in any environment, both sonically and spiritually.

The band’s name references a passage in Jewish scripture about an unanswered question. This is an “all ages” concert.
