This 2017 documentary film tells the inspiring true story of a group of Australians who decide to trace the route described in the novel The Grapes of Wrath.
Written by John Steinbeck (1902-1968) and first published in 1939, The Grapes of Wrath chronicles a poor farm family in the 1930’s as they travel from Oklahoma to California in hopes of a better life. The realism is a key reason Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962.
In 2015, five friends from Australia set out to bike the route on a budget of just $420 (which is the equivalent to the $18). They were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people in the states they biked through states usually considered very conservative.
