Hosted by performance artist Art Baker (as the character Lilith DeVille), the stage is ablaze as The Smokin’ Betties perform a night of burlesque as flammable as gasoline.
First appearing in 16th century Italy, burlesque is a performance intended to cause laughter by caricaturing serious works or their subjects. It has since evolved into an art specializing in a broadly risqué mix of music and comedy. The term “burlesque” is rooted in the Italian word “burla,” which translates into English as “ridicule.”
