Presented in conjunction with the Asian Lantern Festival, the Zoo shines a light on conservation during the Wild Illuminations Soiree.

Asian lanterns are also known as Chinese lanterns and sky lanterns.  These are small, hot air balloons made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended. It is believed that this form of lighting was invented in China around 300BCE. During the festival, these towering steel and silk sculptures will encompass three connected themes: the Zoo, our global species conservation partnerships, and Asian culture.

Stroll through the Zoo delighting in the glow of the lanterns. Dine on delectable Asian-inspired dishes from the region’s premier restaurants and the Zoo’s catering company, Taste. Celebrate Asian culture while enjoying performances and artisans from the Organization of Chinese Americans and the Japan America Society of Pennsylvania.

Food and beverage tickets included in event price. Event is not black-tie; dress attire is summer chic with a tropical flair. All guests must be 21 years or older to attend and proper ID will be required.
