Formed in 1993, Yamato is a taiko drum ensemble like no other.
Taiko is a traditional Japanese percussion instrument that first appeared around the year 588CE. Yamato is the historic name of Nara, the troupe’s home prefecture in Japan.
These expert musicians train their bodies to the absolute limit to beat their massive instruments. While the acoustic pressure far surpasses what one could imagine, the ensemble’s acclaimed performances range from explosive percussion to delicate musical moments that offer a palette of meticulously crafted sound.
