What was originally called Cliffside Park, the August Wilson Park is a rolling, fully accessible landscape featuring public art inspired by neighborhood children, walking paths, a playground and an installation of vintage photographs from Pittsburgh native Charles “Teenie” Harris (1908-1998).

The park is named in honor of Pulitzer Prize winning Pittsburgh playwright August Wilson (1945-2005), whose plays depict the comic and tragic aspects of the African-American experience.

Redevelopment of the park was spearheaded by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservatory, whose mission is improving quality of life for the people of Pittsburgh by restoring the park system to excellence in partnership with government and the community.
