Bellefield Hall is home to the music department of the University Of Pittsburgh.

Commonly known locally as Pitt, the University of Pittsburgh is a state-related research university that began in 1787. The university is comprised of 17 undergraduate and graduate schools located in various buildings in the city’s Oakland neighborhood — effectively making it Pitt’s campus.

Bellefield was designed by noted American architect Benno Janssen (1874-1964) to be the home of the Pittsburgh chapter of a Jewish fraternal organization. It was completed in 1924 and features a beautiful Italianate design.

The university purchased the building in 1994 and renamed it after its location on South Bellefield Avenue. It now houses rehearsal spaces, classrooms, offices, a digital recording studio and a 676-seat auditorium. The Bellefield also features a gymnasium, fitness center and indoor swimming pool.
