Established in 1975, City Theatre is the largest professional company in Pittsburgh dedicated to a full season of all new work, commissioning and producing plays by writers at the forefront of the theater world.

City began as a group of university graduates calling themselves the City Players and staging plays at various locations with the support of Pittsburgh’s parks department until securing a permanent home in 1991.

Today, the theater is located on the city’s historic South Side in a renovated former church with a 254-seat main stage and a 100-seat black box theater. Patrons enjoy a pre-show experience in City’s lounge.
