The Energy Innovation Center is a multi-disciplinary institution that integrates workforce development programs, green technology research laboratories, a business incubator and collaborative university-industry projects.
It is housed in the renovated Connelley Trade School. The school opened in 1930 and was named in honor of Clifford Brown Connelley (1863-1938), who served as Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry from 1919-1923.
The 172,152-square-foot Classical Revival and Art Deco structure was realized in steel, and clad in brownstone, with brick throughout and an asphalt roof. It’s 2014 renovation is regarded as an excellent example of adaptive reuse.
It remains a vital campus for workforce development training.
