Fitzgerald Field House is a multipurpose athletic facility for the University Of Pittsburgh’s varsity volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling teams.

Commonly known locally as Pitt, the University of Pittsburgh is a state-related research university that began in 1787. The university is comprised of 17 undergraduate and graduate schools located in various buildings in the city’s Oakland neighborhood — effectively making it Pitt’s campus.

Fitzgerald Field House opened in 1951. It was named in honor of university chancellor Rufus Fitzgerald (1890-1966), who actively welcomed World War II veterans to the student body and supported virologist Jonas Salk (1914-1995) in his development of the first successful polio vaccine at Pitt.

Renovated in 1999 and again in 2008, Fitzgerald is a fine example of mid-century design with an Olympic sports weight room, indoor race track, courts and seating for over 4,000 people.
