Constructed between 1952 and 1960, Gateway Center is a complex of modernist high-rise office and retail structures.

The complex’s name derives from its location: near Point State Park, which was known as a “gateway to the west” in the 18th and 19th centuries because this is where the Ohio River forms.

Gateway Center was a critical component of Pittsburgh’s famous First Renaissance (1946-1973), when the city was transformed from a smoky, factory city into the modern metropolis that it is today.

It is currently owned by the Hertz Investment Group, a national real estate investment firm.
