The Mine Factory is an exhibit and work space for area artists located inside a former building owned by Mine Safety Appliances, Inc.
Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) is a maker of sophisticated safety products that help protect workers who may be exposed to a variety of hazardous conditions. The company was formed in 1914 with the help of internationally acclaimed inventor Thomas Edison (1847-1931).
The handsome, six-floor structure features large spaces and big windows. After decades at this location, MSA moved its operations to suburban Pittsburgh.
