The Miracle Mile is a large open-air shopping mall in Monroeville.

Monroeville is one of Pittsburgh’s major suburbs, with a population of approximately 30,000 people living in a community east of the city. It’s named in honor of Joel Monroe (1793-1877), the region’s first postmaster. He owned a farm on what is now part of Monroeville.

When the Miracle Mile first opened in 1954, it was considered to be the largest shopping center in the country between New York City and Chicago (hence, the name)/
