The Nationality Rooms are classrooms inside the University Of Pittsburgh’s iconic Cathedral Of Learning which celebrate the cultures that helped to build Pittsburgh.

Commonly known locally as Pitt, the University of Pittsburgh is a state-related research university that began in 1787. The university is comprised of 17 undergraduate and graduate schools located in various buildings in the city’s Oakland neighborhood — effectively making it Pitt’s campus.

The 42-story Late Gothic Revival tower was completed in 1934 and is the tallest educational building in the Western hemisphere. It has a steel frame overlaid with Indiana limestone and has over 2,000 rooms and windows. In addition to offices, a food court and labs, the cathedral is home to the Charity Randall Theater.

The Nationality Rooms program began in 1926 and each room is planned and financed by its own committee. The university agrees to provide the room and upkeep. Each room is a unique blend of history museum and active classroom. The Rooms inspire lectures, seminars, concerts exhibitions and social events which focus on the various heritages and traditions of the nations represented.
