Opened in 1999, the O’Reilly is the 650-seat home to the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

Since its founding in 1974, the mission of Pittsburgh Public Theater is to provide artistically diverse theatrical experiences of the highest quality. The Public has a long tradition of supporting new playwrights and their work, most notably Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson (1945-2005).

The O’Reilly is named in honor of retired Irish businessman Sir Anthony O’Reilly, who was an executive at the Pittsburgh-based H. J. Heinz Company for many years. The building is a handsome, modern structure that fits well with the century old buildings surrounding it. The theater was designed by internationally acclaimed American architect Michael Graves, whose other accomplishments include the Alliance Francaise library in New York City, the American Academy in Italy and the Burj Dubai Towers in the United Arab Emirates.
