What is now called the Regional Enterprise Tower was completed in 1953 as the headquarters for ALCOA.

ALCOA (portmanteau of Aluminum Company of America) was founded in 1888 by chemist and inventor Charles Martin Hall (1863-1914). It is currently the world’s eighth largest producer of aluminum.

The 41-story building was the first skyscraper with an all-aluminum facade. A unique radiant heating and cooling system is contained in the ceiling: since there are no pipes, radiators or air conditioning units along the exterior walls, an additional 15,000 square feet of rentable space was gained.  Also, the windows rotate 360 degrees so they can be washed from the inside.

When ALCOA moved to its new headquarters in 2001, this building was renamed the Regional Enterprise Tower. It then became a home to government entities, regional nonprofits and small start-up companies including the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC).

In 2015, PMC Property Group launched a plan to redevelop what they continue to call the Alcoa Building, including building 241 class-A multi-family units, 133,000 square feet of office space, and 6,200 square feet of retail including restaurants.
