The Roberto Clemente Bridge is one of three self-anchored suspension bridges connected Downtown Pittsburgh with the city’s North Side across the Allegheny River nicknamed “The Three Sisters.”

A self-anchored suspension bridge has the main cables attached to the ends of the deck (rather than to the ground as is common). The Clemente and its two sisters were the first such bridges constructed in the United States (in the 1920s and 1930s) and the only trio of nearly identical bridges in the country.

For most of its history, it was known as the Sixth Street Bridge as it connected Sixth Street in Downtown with Federal Street on the North Side. In 1998, the bridge was formally renamed in honor of legendary professional Pittsburgh baseball player Roberto Clemente (1934-1972). It’s sometimes used for outdoor events.

STANDARD HOURS:
The bridge is open 24-hours a day.

PARKING:
Parking facilities are available at either end of the bridge.
