Pittsburgh Opera will give audiences a fresh take on Italian composer Gaetano Danizetti’s (1797-1848) comic 1810 opera — by moving the action to 1930’s Hollywood.
The story concerns old and wealthy bachelor Don Pasquale, who has been the caretaker of his nephew, Ernesto, for some time. His attempts to secure Ernesto’s future by arranging a marriage with a “proper” girl encounter a snag: Ernesto is in love with the “improper” young widow Norina.
Presented by the Pittsburgh Opera, the eighth oldest opera company in the United States.
