Russian-British violinist Alina Ibragimova makes her local debut performing a lyrical concerto written by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943).
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
Hear the heart-wrenching beauty of English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams’ (1872-1958) epic 1910 masterpiece “Fantasia” which is built on work by an earlier English composer, Thomas Tallis (1505-1585).
Alina Ibragimova then performs Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s (1891-1953) first violin concerto. Rachmaninoff’s last symphony ends the night with a work clearly paying respect to the composer’s Russian background.
