Swiss-Italian pianist Francesco Piemontesi (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program that features a signature work by French composer Louis-Hector Berlioz (1803-1869).

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

The “Symphonie Fantastique” is a piece of program music that tells the story of a gifted artist who, in the depths of hopelessness and despair because of his unrequited love for a woman, has poisoned himself with opium.
