This imaginative and electrifying play considers the unlikely friendship between civil rights advocate Malcolm X (pictured) and entertainer Redd Foxx.
Malcolm X (born Malcom Little; 1925-1965) was a vocal advocate for Black empowerment who was often accused of preaching violence. John “Redd Foxx” Sanford (1922-1991) was a stand-up comedian and actor best known for his raunchy humor and starring in the hit television comedy series “Sanford & Son” (1972-1977).
The two men actually did meet in the 1940’s while working at a restaurant in the Harlem section of New York City. This play imagines a long hot summer of heartbreak, betrayal and racial uprising that brings the young adults together before moving them apart.
