Pianist and composer Amy Williams performs a masterpiece written by a masterful composer.
That masterful composer is Morton Feldman (1926-1987), whose works are characterized by rhythms that seem to be free and floating along with pitch shadings that seem softly unfocused.
Premiered in 1981, Feldman’s “Triadic Memories” is one of the most significant piano works of the late 20th century and a cornerstone of contemporary classical repertoire. Lasting approximately 90 minutes, the piece unfolds in a continuous, unbroken span, challenging conventional ideas of form, rhythm, and musical time.
This is an “all-ages” concert. Presented as part of Music On The Edge (MOTE), which is dedicated to exploring the enormous diversity of today’s vital new music from around the globe.
