Christopher Wilk of the V&A East Storehouse — the Victoria & Albert Museum’s revolutionary museum warehouse in England — leads this visual lecture about the impressive office designed by pioneering architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959; pictured).
Designed and built for Pittsburgh department store owner Edgar Kaufmann Sr. (1885-1955), the office is a beautiful and remarkably complete example of Wright’s work and of his philosophy of organic architecture in compact form. Its floors, walls, ceiling, built-in and freestanding furniture, upholstery textiles, and rugs are original to the room and designed by Wright — an unusual level of completeness for a museum period room.
The reconstructed office is now on permanent exhibit at the V&A East Storehouse.
