The story centers on high school senior Evan Hanson, a bullied teen with social anxiety disorder. Evan’s therapist suggests, as a form of treatment, he write supportive letters to himself. One of these letters accidentally ends up in the pocket of a suicidal classmate. This leads to a series of misunderstandings, well-intention misleading and emotionally powerful revelations.
Ben Platt, who originated the role of Evan on Broadway, became the youngest Best Actor Tony Award winner (at age 23) for his performance.
