Noted violinist Augustin Hadelich (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and members of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre for an evening that looks both forward and back in a vibrant celebration of American musical voices.
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
The program is centered around a segment of the 1944 ballet “Appalachian Spring.” Written by composer Aaron Copland (1900-1990) with original movement by choreographer Martha Graham (1894-1991), the ballet perfectly captures the hope and possibility of life in an ideal America.
Also: the world debut of “Dancing in the Streets” written by contemporary composer Michael Daugherty.
