Russian American pianist Kirill Gerstein (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program centered on a seminal work by German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897).

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Brahms composed his second piano concerto between 1878 and 1881. The work is considered a towering masterpiece of sweeping power and rich symphonic grandeur.
