Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
Alexander Malofeev (pictured), one of the most exciting young pianists on the international stage and winner of the 2016 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, brings dazzling virtuosity to Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto. The program also features Austrian composer Joseph Haydn’s (1732-1809) “Il Distratto”, a world premiere of a new work by contemporary American composer Mason Bates and concludes with a festive annual tradition of conductor Manfred Honeck leading the PSO in waltzes and favorites from his Austria homeland.
