From the thunderous opening to the vibrant choral passages celebrating the joys and sorrows of love and life, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs a signature work by German composer Carl Orff (1895-1982, pictured).
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
Orff’s 1935 composition “Carmina Burana” is adapted from a collection of irreverent medieval poems. The PSO is joined by the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, a children’s choir, and superstar vocalists, creating a spectacularly full sound perfect for Valentines Day Weekend.
