In this tour de force, conductor Byron Stripling leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a showcase of ragtime masters such as Scott Joplin (pictured).

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Composer and pianist Scott Joplin (1868-1917) pioneered the distinctly American musical artform known as ragtime. Originated in African American community, ragtime is piano-driven music often arranged in patterns of repeats and reprises. Ragtime influenced the development of jazz.
