This special program showcases Craig Knox (pictured), the principal tuba for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
Craig will perform a new work created specifically for him by contemporary composer Nick DiBerardino. This piece showcases the tuba in vivid, expressive detail rarely seen in orchestral repertoire, demonstrating the instrument’s full lyrical and technical range.
The program also includes the 1920 choreographic poem “La Valse” written by French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937).
