Soccer is a sport played between two teams of eleven members who primarily use their feet to propel a round ball on a rectangular field. The object is to win by achieving more goals than the opposing team. The sport is known throughout most of the world as football, but as soccer in the U.S. to distinguish itself from American football.
The sport’s ultimate moment each four years is the World Cup organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The 2026 championship is jointly hosted by sixteen cities — eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada.
