This international art and peace exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Signed in 1968, the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) seeks to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons while promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy. More countries have adhered to the NPT than any other arms limitation and disarmament agreement in human history.

The artistic concept behind “50 Cities – 50 Traces” is to unveil individual traces from 50 member cities of Mayors for Peace — an international organization of mayors founded in 1982 to promote peace. The resulting exhibition is an invitation to respect and preserve the visible remainders of while making an appeal against the destruction of the world’s cities.

Admission is free. Presented in conjunction with the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, a program of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust that features exhibits and performances making their North American, United States or even World debut.
