This interesting and imaginative play speculates n what might have happened to Pittsburgh native and pop art pioneer Andy Warhol (1928-1987) during his 1976 visit to the Imperial State of Iran.

The Imperial State was formed in 1925 when the Pahlavi dynasty replaced the Qajar dynasty as the ruling family of Persia (later renamed Iran). Despite progress in education, living standards and the role of women, the dynasty’s political oppression combined with the enmity of religious fundamentalists would result in a revolution in 1979.

“Andy Warhol in Iran” imagines an encounter between the artist and a young Iranian radical to provide the framework for a a fiery, thought-provoking drama about art, revolution and discovering a world beyond yourself.
