The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre wraps up its historic 50th anniversary season by celebrating two of ballet’s greatest contributors.
Those contributors are Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) and Russian-American choreographer George Balanchine (1904-1983).
The music of Tchaikovsky has provided the backbone for many of Balanchine’s most exquisite ballets, including the invigorating “Theme & Variations”, the expansive “Allegro Brillante“ and the consummate “Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux“, set to the classic music of “Swan Lake”.
This special 50th Anniversary event also features “Diamonds”, the brilliant third movement of Balanchine’s “Jewels”.
