Come out and kick off the weekend right with an opportunity at cash prizes, trophies and more as local drag entertainers joyously and colorfully take over the bridge.
The slang word “drag” refers to a person (usually male) who assumes the exaggerated dress and mannerisms of the other gender for artistic or entertainment purposes. For centuries, men have dressed as women during traditional customs and rituals. In medieval England, when women were banned from appearing on stage, men in dresses was common in plays. The term “drag” first appeared in the 1870’s and may have derived from the sensation of long skirts trailing on the floor.
Representatives from the local historical underground ballroom community will also be present.
