Ferocious local rhythm & blues drummer Charles “Poogie” Bell Jr. and his son saxophonist Winston Bell celebrate a rich legacy begun by their family’s impressive patriarch, pianist/composer Charles Bell Sr. (1940-2012).
Charles Bell Sr. studied classical music as a teen before becoming interested in jazz. In 1958, while still in college, he formed the Charles Bell Contemporary Jazz Quartet to perform his exciting original compositions. Charles’ music was vibrant, full of blues licks, gospel phrases and plenty of soul. The quartet released its first album in 1960 and toured parts of Europe in 1962.
Enjoy hearing father and son perform three generations of masterful jazz.
