The Pittsburgh Opera celebrates its 80th anniversary season gala under the glittering Benedum Center chandeliers honoring Pittsburgh native actress/singer Shirley Jones.
Born in 1934, Shirley Jones won an Academy Award for her performance in the 1960 film “Elmer Gantry” and later gained even bigger fame as the star of the television comedy series “The Partridge Family” (1970-1974).
Pittsburgh Opera will also bestow their Maecenas Award upon benefactors whose exceptional dedication to ensure that live opera can thrive in Pittsburgh. The award’s name was inspired by Gaius Maecenas (70 BCE – 8 BCE), an ancient Roman who was an enlightened patron of the arts.
The evening includes a catered dinner, awards presentation and live entertainment. Proceeds benefit the Pittsburgh Opera.
