A genuine travesty of justice inspired this powerful and engrossing 1948 film.
James Stewart (pictured) portrays a newspaperman assigned to investigate a policeman’s murder over a decade earlier. The road blocks he encounters by the police, district attorney and even state politicians lead him to believe that something terrible happened at the trial — which sent two men to prison.
The plot is based on the 1932 murder of a Chicago policeman and the dogged search for the truth by a Chicago Times reporter.
